Painesville, the capital city of Lake County, is known around the state as "Little Tiajuana", and for good reason. In 2005, our Commissioners passed a resolution announcing that from that point on, the Matricula Consular card would be recognized in Lake County as a valid form of identification. U.S. law enforcement officials cite that Matricula Consular cards are issued by Mexican Consulate without checking the authenticity of the applicant's supporting documentation. In testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee, the FBI disclosed that the Matricula Consular card is inherently unreliable and highly vulnerable to fraud. The FBI reported that because Mexico lacks a centralized database for their CIDs, they are unable to prevent an individual from receiving multiple CIDs and cannot access information about a CID applicant's identity. An FBI agent said that "Mexican consulates issued CID cards to individuals lacking any proof of identification, as long as they fill out a questionnaire and satisfy the consular official that they are who they claim to be." U.S. Federal and local drug enforcement agents have discovered that numerous foreign narcotics traffickers obtain Matricula Consular cards using aliases and that their use in the United States presents the U.S. with a serious criminal threat. The acceptance of the use of these cards by our Commissioners has put our county in danger.
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed." Meaning, in order for a free country to remain free, the people must be able, under no uncertain terms, to defend themselves against a tyrannical government. Infringed: to encroach upon. Regulations, registrations, and other forms of gun "control" are by definition encroachments on our right to defend ourselves. The Second Amendment was not about hunting, or even about protecting our homes from intruders... it was written by a group of men who had just been through the bloodiest, most self-sacrificing victory for Freedom the planet has ever seen, and they knew that in order to preserve that Freedom the people may one day have to fight for it again. God forbid.
Regionalism vs Collaboration
Sometimes the words Regionalism and Collaboration are used interchangeably, but there is a distinct difference between the two. Collaboration is when two cities or two counties voluntarily come to an agreement with each other to share services, which can help save taxpayer dollars. For example City A is small and it's a burden on their budget to employ and run their own salt trucks, so they decide to contract with City B, who is larger and can financially sustain salt trucks, to salt the roads of City A when necessary. In turn City A will compensate them fairly for the use of their services, but the trucks are still owned and controlled by City B, and taxpayer dollars remain at home where they should be. Regionalism occurs when tax dollars are pooled from more than one government in order to purchase the truck and share ownership. This results in the need for a joint committee of people to oversee the administration of the shared service. This committee spans the jurisdiction of both City A and City B, and neither city, nor its citizens, has complete control of the committee, which results in lost sovereignty and power of the people.
